TUSCANY

Tuscany viticulture can be considered one of the most representative for the Italian wines. The cultivations are distributed above all on the hill and mountainous grounds, particularly special for weather trend and geologic reasons, and only in smaller part in the level ground.

Wine areas are essentially the hills of the Chianti in the center of Tuscany; the zone of Mugello in the north; the Val di Chiana in the south; the coast side. The constant tendency to the specialization testifies the importance of the viticulture in Tuscany, that is found to the third place in Italy as production of D.O.C. wines (well over, the third part of the regional total wine production). The traditional vineyards are primarily installed at Rittocchino, with distance among the rows of around three meters and on the line between 1,20 and 1,50 meters, with a middle density of around 3.000 stumps for hectare. The prevailing forms of breeding are those by espalier with pruning like Guyot, capovolto and Cordone speronato.

The red grapes cultivated are: Aleatico, Alicante, Ancellotta, Barbera, Brunello (Sangiovese Grosso), Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Canaiolo Nero, Canina Nera, Ciliegiolo, Colorino, Malvasia Nera, Merlot, Montepulciano, Pinot Nero, Pollera Nera, Prugnolo Gentile, Sangiovese, Schiava Gentile, Syrah, Vermentino Nero.
The white grapes cultivated are: Albana, Albarola, Ansonica, Biancone, Canaiolo Bianco, Chardonnay, Grechetto, Greco, Livornese Bianca, Malvasia Bianca.

The prestige of the viticulture of Tuscany in the world is born from the ability to melt innovation and tradition creating social, cultural and environmental value. The ability of entrepreneurs and technicians to individualize vines, clones, interventions of wine cellar to obtain productions of quality recognized by the market, are one of the winning peculiarities of the regional wine-growing. Not only quality, but also attention to the environment, to the landscape, to the biodiversity as founding values of the sustainable viticulture. Wine not only as quality, but as excellent testimony of the territory. Among the many cultivated vine varieties in Tuscany the more installed one is certainly the Sangiovese, present with its grapes in all the DOC wines of the region, and excellently married to Trebbiano, Canaiolo or Malvasia Toscana.

Today close to stars of primary greatness as Chianti Classico, Brunello of Montalcino and Vino Nobile of Montepulciano, there are important zones as Bolgheri, famous for the wines of Cabernet (Sassicaia) and Merlot or the maremma grossetana with the Morellino di Scansano .
